March 12, 2020: The 2020 Green Wave Classic has been officially cancelled. Yesterday Tulane University decided to cancel in-person classes and close the dorms, moving entirely to online classes for the remainder of the semester. They have also cancelled all univeristy events and gatherings with more than 50 people. As a result we have cancelled the race for 2020.
The Green Wave Classic is Tulane Cycling's signature collegiate race event. The weekend road race event is held most years during the spring semester. It is part of the South Central Collegiate Cycling Conference annual Road Championship Series and is held under USA Cycling event permit. The event format typically includes a Road Race, an Individual Time Trial, and a Criteirum. Although the locations and venues sometimes change, recent editions of the event have been held on the northshore in the Covington/Mandeville area to allow for easier access to low traffic volume roads and low-cost venues. The event is organized and managed by members of the club and involves significant planning and logistics in order to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for student athletes from Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. In order to secure adequate police and officiating services, the club seeks event sponsorship to help cover costs.
